Ischia in the Bay of Naples is the setting of one of the protagonist’s first holidays in Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet, one of my favourite books. Although foreign tourists have discovered it, it is largely touristed by Italians - and Napoletans like my mother. I found inspiration for my art in this group of Italian women, chatting away their cares, whilst enjoying the warm Mediterranean waters.
