When Bar Italia was set up in Soho with its big Italian community after the second world war, it was more than just a place to get a good cup of coffee, which was hard to find back then.  if you were a waiter and unemployed you would get help from the other waiters to find a job. It was a place where people could catch up. And it was somewhere where people who had lost family members during the war, could find out what had happened. The Polledri family still own it and have been careful to keep the detail and the continuity of what was originally there when it opened. I’m proud to have my portraits of customers and staff on its walls.

Pencil on paper. Framed.
