Sister island to Capri, Ischia in the Bay of Naples is the setting of one of the protagonist’s first holidays in Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet, one of my favourite reads. Ischia is largely touristed by Italians - and Napoletans like my mother in particular. I found this group of Italian women, chatting away their cares, letting it all hang out, whilst enjoying the warm Mediterranean waters inspiring. It reminded me of the open friendliness of my own mum.
