English singer/songwriter, actor and film producer, Roger Daltry is a co-founder and the lead singer of The Who, considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century. Daltrey's hit songs with The Who includes "My Generation”, which became their trademark.
The Who's stage act was energetic and Daltrey's habit of swinging the microphone around his head and over the audience became a signature move. Stella explores this prop relationship here, introducing a background that shows how he is ‘transported’ and can transport an audience.
Her digital painting is inspired by Solomon NJie’s photos of the singer on the Who Face Dances Tour, 11 March 1981 at Wembley Arena.
Sol says, “The Who were the first live band I saw at the age of 15. Remember being amazed how Roger Daltrey swung the microphone around without missing a beat. Stella has captured Roger in classic pose during his prime while singing at full tilt.”
