English singer, musician and actor Adam Ant (stage name) became popular in the early 1980s as the lead vocalist of new wave group ‘Adam and the Ants’ and later as a solo artist.
Ant’s hits include ‘Prince Charming’, whose lyrics feature in my digital painting of him as a visual prompt to evoke memory.
My portrait is inspired by a photograph by Getty rock photographer Solomon N'Jie of Adam and the Ants performing at Wembley Arena 13th July 1985. Sol says, “Adam and the Ants concerts at Wembley were chaotic as Adam Ant was at the height of his fame, with numerous number one singles and a teenage heart throb. Stella is able to capture Adam’s slightly bashful side while performing at a major concert.”
