Aerial ballet – South Bank acrobats by Stella Tooth. Imagine strolling through London’s cultural district and coming across two acrobats performing – in turn – the most astonishing feats of balance on one and two hands. You approach and ask if they’d consider an artistic collaboration. They would! They agree to perform together, making beautiful negative shapes between their bodies which you photograph. Back in the studio you remember what attracted you to the acrobats – a sensation of weightlessness – and you hang onto it, transferring it with coloured pencil to a borderless support which gives the impression of them falling through the air.
Mixed media on cradled gesso panel strung.
