Tina Turner is an American-born Swiss singer and actress who is widely referred to as the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’. Visually Tina is exciting to paint, invariably wearing short dresses that allow her to dance on stage and trademark wigs.
She said, “On stage, I'm acting the whole time I'm there. As soon as I get out of those songs, I'm Tina again.”
The stage mask slipped in the photo that inspires this picture as Tina held that pose for Sol during the final song at the concert. I use background turquoise symbolising luck, peace and protection which Tina needed after her marriage to Ike.
This painting is based on a photo by rock photographer Solomon N’Jie on the Private Dancer Tour 16 March 1985 Wembley Arena.
Sol says, “This picture will always be special to me as Tina held that pose, during the encore, enabling me to capture the photo of her final song at the concert. The style and sassiness of Tina, the global 80’s icon, is captured and shines back out from within this painting”.
