Elton John is an English singer, pianist and composer who learned to play piano at an early age. He’s had a successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, collaborating with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967 and is one of the best-selling artists of all time.
John’s glasses are a signature part of his style which he once said he began wearing when he was 13 to copy Buddy Holly although he didn’t need them. Speaking to Vogue Magazine, he revealed that his glasses and the feathers and sequins he favours are part of the performance, “I sat at a piano. I’m not Mick Jagger. I’m not Rod Stewart. I’m not David Bowie. I don’t move around the stage. I’ve got to attract attention somehow!”
The digital painting is based on a photo by rock photographer Solomon N’Jie Wembley Arena, December 1985. Sol says, “Elton is a huge talent who I photographed for over a decade following his many multi personality changes. He always produced outstanding shows with a larger than life stage personality that shone through for his audience.”
