Mick Jagger is an English singer and songwriter famous worldwide as the lead vocalist and one of the founder members of The Rolling Stones. His song-writing partnership with Keith Richards is one of the most successful in history.
According to Wikipedia, British novelist Philip Norman likens Jagger in his early performances with The Rolling Stones to a male ballet dancer, with "his conflicting and colliding sexuality: the swan's neck and smeared harlot eyes allied to an overstuffed and straining codpiece". I focus here on the commanding role of the singer, the suggestive costume and the athleticism and broad gestures needed to stage music for large audiences, where performers sometimes see like ants to those at the back.
The digital painting is based on a behind the scenes photo by rock photographer Solomon N’Jie taken on 25 June 1982 Wembley Stadium. Sol says, “One of the all-time great rock and roll artists who still tours with the Rolling Stones and puts in high energy performances at the age of 78. It’s unusual to see Mick playing guitar, in this shot a Gibson SG, but you can see how Stella has captured the stones front man very much in command.”
