Posthumous commission: Pat Malkin
When my husband’s Uncle Pat died, I was asked to draw a portrait of him for his wife from a group photograph taken on a sunny day with a blue sky behind him.
It helped hugely that I could picture in my mind’s eye the colour of his skin and his gentle character. He was always quick to smile with a twinkle in his eye.
This is the type of portrait that almost draws itself and it brought him back to life for me. I understand it has brought a lot of comfort to his wife Vera, which makes me very happy.
