Commission: musician art Johannes Bowling

I studied for my first degree in politics, economics, French and Spanish at the University of the South Bank with my lovely German friend Susi Bowling and she introduced me and my husband Nigel to her husband Ben.

They have since become University lecturers and formed a band called ‘Doc Bowling and his Blues Professors’ which includes them both and their son Johannes, a saxophonist, among others.

We have been to see them play at their local pub in Pimlico.  And, the first time I went to see them, I drew a portrait of Ben for fun as a keepsake.

Pre Covid-19, I would regularly teach  a'methods and materials' drawing workshop for Sketchout in the Tate Britain and call Ben and Susi to see if they could join me for a coffee at lunchtime to chew the fat.

It was on one such occasion that they commissioned me to do a drawn portrait of Johannes in action.
